MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A 16-year-old girl and a security guard are recovering after being shot late Sunday night.

According to an incident report, police got the call about a teenager who had been shot one time in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market at 2856 Hickory Hill Road. Police say they also found a security guard with a gunshot wound at 6099 Apple Tree Drive. Both victims were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

Police say the shootings stem from a party at the Zodiac Restaurant and Lounge where about 250 to 300 teens were turned away from the door because the building was over capacity.

The reason for the party?

"They call it a twerk off," said barber Tim Battles of The Cut, which is located next to Zodiac Lounge and Restaurant.

"It's a common thing. You see it on the Internet all the time. YouTube. So, it's something that's gonna attract young guys," added Battles.

When he left work, Battles says the parking lot was crowded with kids drawn there to "twerk".

"It seemed like everything was going smooth. They were searching all the kids," he explained.

By 9:41 p.m, police got a call about the 16-year-old and security guard who had been shot.

"They was outside dancing it and next thing I know, I just, gunshots, and then everybody just started running," said witness Levante Anthony. "I saw people runnin' it and twerkin' it."

MPD says officers on scene heard more gunshots coming from inside the Enclave Apartment Complex at 2940 Hickory Hill Road, where they then arrested two juveniles.

The Zodiac was closed Monday morning and they have not returned Action News 5's calls.

Tim Battles describes Zodiac as a good neighbor and a nice establishment.

"These teenagers, they get together, the Internet gets blasted. They have just an information highway on the Internet. It just snowballs into this big event," said Battles.

One of the juveniles arrested is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. The other is charged with disorderly conduct, evading arrest, and resisting arrest.
