DYERSBURG, TN -
(WMC-TV) - A 20-year-old man is under arrest and charged for reportedly trying to kidnap an 11-year-old girl as she waited for a ride to school.
People living along Schaffer Street in Dyersburg say after more than three months, they are happy to know that an accused kidnapper is off the street and behind bars.
"I heard her. I was sitting in that room when I head her scream," said Bonnie Mitchell.
Bonnie Mitchell says she practically witnessed an 11-year-old girl being taken from along her bus route last November.
"I just thank the Lord Jesus she's OK, that she didn't get raped or killed or what," said Mitchell.
Late last week, Dyersburg police arrested 20-year-old James Weaver and charged him with kidnapping.
Police say Weaver grabbed the girl as she walked to the bus stop and tried to drag her into an abandoned house.
James Weaver is in the Dyer County jail under a $250,000 bond. He is due before a judge at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
