MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A man and woman were sitting in their car on the side of the road when someone fired shots through their window, according to Memphis police.

The victims were pulled over on Egypt Central Road Sunday afternoon when a car pulled up behind them, someone got out of the car, and then shot them both through the window.

The victims then drove several blocks away before stopping on the 3300 block of Redcliff Drive.

That's where paramedics and police found them with gunshot wounds.

Both victims are at The MED in critical condition.

Now, police are trying to figure out what prompted the shooting. Broken glass is left on the sidewalk, and bullet casings are in the gutter from the crime scene.

"It sounded horrible. It shook me up because I heard it. We don't never have this type of activity," said resident Jessica Nelson.

Nelson said she heard six to eight gunshots.

In what police call a violent, and mysterious attack - an entire community is left on edge.
