Dr. Rick Harris, former Sr. Security Director of Orange County Public Schools, has founded Project SAVE, which provides vulnerability and risk assessments to improve school security to prevent school violence and improve policies and procedures to manage a school crisis or tragedy effectively.
Orlando, Florida (PRWEB) February 27, 2013
Dr. Rick Harris retired with a goal in mind and started Project SAVE, to reduce school violence and prepare school administrators to manage a school in the event of a crisis. He has created a consortium of current and former school officials who will evaluate and provide school safety/security assessments as a management consultation throughout the United States. Project SAVE will provide school administrators with complete and thorough recommendations from experienced school security experts who understand the “big picture” policies, procedures and school community relations.
The assessments will review and assess:
-Current polices and procedures in place in the event of a crisis/emergency
-Campus wide physical areas of vulnerability, including access points to the school
-Current physical security protection including mass communication, intrusion detection, perimeter protection, video surveillance and analytics and access control systems
-Operational practices of staff, including personnel and internal security
-Survey of staff, students and members of the school community
-School and public safety agency partnerships
Upon completion of the vulnerability assessment, a thorough, detailed report is written and reviewed in detail with the appropriate school staff. Recommended changes to reduce the risk of a crisis or emergency and improve preparedness and management of an emergency situation are provided. The assessment will provide both immediate improvements that can take place as well as long term goals.
Harris is the former Senior Security Director for Orange County Public Schools (FL)—the 10th largest school system in the nation. The Council of Great City School recently recognized Harris’ department as one of the top five (5) school security organizations in the nation.
Harris said, “You must have a passion for making a difference in the quality of education provided by public and private schools. The effectiveness of campus security systems directly affects teaching and learning and each campus team’s success in maintaining safe environments.”
Dr. Harris’ notoriety as a security professional has not gone unnoticed within the Security Industry. In 2011, Security Magazine recognized his operation as one of the top 500 security organizations in the country. Only 26 of 1,600 eligible school systems in America received that recognition.
Dr. Harris grew up in Central Florida and is a former Army officer. He and Gloria, his wife, have three children Tamara (Chicago), Victoria (Orlando), Rick Jr. (Orlando).
Project SAVE has been sponsored by NuTech National, a nationwide security contractor. Greg DeTardo, President of NuTech National, said,” Our company has worked with Dr. Harris and his administrative team and recognizes his outstanding technical and leadership abilities. This collation also allows NuTech National to expand the spectrum of security systems support that it currently provides to businesses—especially to public and private school systems throughout the United States.”
