Students playing with gun at school face expulsion

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Several students are now facing expulsion after a loaded gun was found at an elementary school.

Eight students in second through fourth grade, ages seven to 10 years old have been recommended for expulsion. Their parents are still waiting to find out what will happen.

At Ross Elementary, a 7-year-old student brought a loaded gun to school. Seven others passed it around campus.

All eight kids were issued summons to show up in juvenile court.

Memphis City Schools has recommended all eight be expelled.

Memphis Police say no one else has been charged but investigators at the Ridgeway precinct are still working the case trying to determine how the 7-year-old got the gun in the first place and if any parents will face criminal charges.

Nobody was hurt at Ross Elementary but enrollment is now down by eight.

But the campus is otherwise, back to normal.

There is no court date yet.

Juvenile court officials say it may be 2-3 weeks before they even receive the summonses.
