Last day to turn in those old tires

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – If you have old tires, or you've recovered some illegally dumped tires, Friday is the last day to cash in as a part of the tire redemption program. And if you have any to spare, Liberty Tires, located at 3000 Elvis Presley Boulevard, is the place to be.

The popular tire redemption program's comeback Wednesday brought some new traction to the Mid-South's effort to decrease blight.

The City of Memphis and Shelby County will shell out more money after already doling out $17,000 since Wednesday.

Right now, there's about $23,000 still available for people bringing in old tires. But you have until 3 p.m. Friday to get there.

In past years the tire redemption program has taken thousands of old tires off the streets.

The goal is to reduce the kind of community blight associated with the illegal dumping of tires.

Participants must have identification that proves they are a Shelby County resident. You can only haul in 100 tires per trip - and you can only make two trips.

Keep in mind no one will get paid at the redemption site. Your money will be mailed to you.

To participate you must have identification that proves you are a Shelby County resident.
