Highway 78 closes for hours after tanker catches fire

Posted: Updated:
(WMC-TV) - Highway 78 between Victoria and Byhalia, Miss. was closed down for hours Saturday after a truck's tires caught fire.

According to Mississippi State Patrol, the tanker had a blowout at 3:00 a.m., and was carrying liquid hydrogen.

There wasn't a chemical spill, but crews had to transfer the liquid from the tanker.

Since hazardous chemicals were involved the state patrol had no other choice but to reroute traffic.

Drivers described the traffic backup as chaotic, as it was backed up for miles.

The accident  happened at mile marker 13 on Highway 78.

The highway was opened up again around 10:00 p.m. Saturday night.
