COLLIERVILLE, TN -
(WMC-TV) - Thursday morning, some elementary school students in Collierville were greeted by someone they consider a hometown hero.
Baltimore Ravens star Morgan Cox stopped by the school to welcome students.
Mayor Stan Joyner was there and proclaimed March 7 as Morgan Cox day in Collierville.
It was all screams as Morgan Cox walked into the Crosswind gym to greet students.
Cox came back to Crosswind to help raise money for Collierville's food pantry.
"I want to be involved in the community because that's what it's all about and it's what I was taught from a young age is that being involved and helping people is the reason you're in positions like this," said Cox.
Prior to his speech, Cox signed autographs in the school office.
He said he's humble about his part in the Super Bowl win this year.
"For me, it's all about all the people around me and I try to shed light more on the people that have gotten me here, my friends and family," he added.
Many Crosswind students and staff dressed in purple in honor of the Ravens.
Cox and his wife Lauren made their way down a purple walk of fame created by the students from food they've collected.
Part of the reason Morgan Cox was visiting his home elementary school was to give back to his home town.
For one week, Crosswind students have been collecting food for the hungry in Collierville.
They have collected over five thousand dollars to go to the Collierville Food Pantry, and thousands of cans of food.
