(WMC-TV) - Southaven Mayor Greg Davis has filed to run for re-election as an independent .
Davis and his supporters fulfilled the requirement of having 50 signatures of registered voters that were needed in order to file.
In January, he announced he would not seek re-election for a fifth term, but says he does not like the direction the current board of Aldermen has taken.
The six candidates who have already filed for mayor are all Republicans. They include Gerald Clifton, Josh Anderson, Gerald Wheeler, Mark Gardner, Christopher Klass, and Darren Musselwhite. Also, Coria Williams filed late Friday afternoon as the democrat candidate for mayor.
Davis would face the winner of that race in June.
Under Davis, Southaven has become the third largest city in Mississippi.
Also, he has recently been at the spending investigation by the state of Mississippi, and was indicted by a grand jury on charges of embezzlement and money mismanagement last December.
