Jerry "The King" Lawler gets back in the ring

Posted: Updated:
(WMC-TV) - Some may call it a soft return to the ring with nothing too rough, but Jerry "The King" Lawler's appearance in Covington Saturday is already sold out.

"I'm actually not ready to get back in the ring and come to blows with anybody, but you never know what might happen at these kind of events," said Lawler.

Lawler's road back to the ring is playing to sold out crowds. Lawler has had appearances at smaller venues where he showed up for his adoring fans, signed autographs and scrapped a bit in the ring.

"The fans are just pouring out in droves, but I enjoy coming to these smaller events and actually getting out and meeting the fans up close and personal and shaking their hand," he said.

It has only been six months since Lawler had a heart attack on live TV in Canada at Monday Night Raw. Lawler said he was near if not at death before he was revived.

Lawler leaves his fans who will show up in Covington Saturday night with a bit of a tease.

"It doesn't take me wearing tights or take me pulling the strap down to light somebody up like a roman candle, which I've done in the past, so they better be careful. It may be a hot time in Henderson and Covington if they are not on their best behavior," he said.

Many of the wrestling events Lawler appears at are for charity. Proceeds from the event in Covington at Crestview Middle School will go the Crestview girls softball program.

Advanced ticket are sold out, however additional tickets will be sold at the door. An estimated 300 to 400 more seats should be available the day of the event.
