Bass Pro signage vote canceled

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - It may be back to the drawing board for Bass Pro Shops, whose proposed signs for The Pyramid are "way too big" according to critics.

The Downtown Memphis Commission Design Review Board was set to vote on Bass Pro's proposed signage next Monday. That meeting is canceled in order to give the company time to make possible changes.

Bass Pro's original proposal called for 60 by 90 foot signs on all four sides of The Pyramid. Those are 100 times larger than what the law allows along the riverfront.

Public reaction and initial concerns by the Design Review Board prompted a possible re-tooling by the company, which may submit a revised application.

In a written statement, Brett Roler, development project manager for the Downtown Memphis Commission, said Bass Pro "listened to the input provided by the DRB and the public and they are actively considering potential modifications to its signage application that would advance their business interests while also being sensitive to the community's concerns."

Roler said Bass Pro Shops is not officially committed to additional changes but is actively looking at solutions.

Right now, there is no word on how soon the company may present new plans.
