MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – It's been a long and difficult road for Jasper the dog.

In early January, an Action News 5 viewer alerted us to the dire situation, the poor dog tied to a tree with a wire embedded in his neck.

But today, was a life-changing day for Jasper.

"This has been a long time coming.  We've all been really excited to share the news with Action News 5," said Alexis Amorose, executive director of the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County.

Excitement was in the air at the Humane Society as Jasper was officially adopted.

His scars healed and it was clear, Jasper was excited to go to his new home.

However, Jasper's journey was not an easy one.

"It was probably one of the worst cases of embedding we've seen here at the Humane Society," said Amorose.

The wires were wrapped so tightly around his neck that they cut into his throat.

But, an Action News 5 viewer saw Jasper's plight and immediately contacted the Humane Society.

Margaret Orem, Jasper's new owner, said she couldn't stand to watch Jasper suffer.

"I just saw him and it just broke my heart," said Orem.  "I saw his little head right there next to that tree trunk.  When the cameraman zoomed down on him, just these little eyes, he looked up at the cameraman like please help me."

Jasper is now healthy, his wounds healed.  Orem says he will be well taken care of for the rest of the life.

A happy dog and a happy owner ride off to their new life together.

Orem says Jasper will have a little sister to take care of, her dog Maggie.
