AUBURN HILLS, MI -

(WMC-TV) - When the Tigers got their second and third round placement on Sunday night, many people wondered if Tiger fans would travel the 800 miles to Auburn Hills, Michigan.

It did not take long to spot Justin and Nicole Hawkins in the stands during the Tigers' first practice on Wednesday.

Justin is from Memphis, but is now living in Michigan just about 10 minutes away from the Palace of Auburn Hills.

He is happy to be able to catch a glimpse of the Tigers in person.

"It was just pretty crazy, the chances were slim," said Justin Hawkins. "I'm pumped, never been this excited."

Andy Lenser was born in Memphis and is also now living in Michigan. He was at the practice sporting a Memphis State shirt.

"It's just a growing experience, like I never thought the day would come but now I get to see them play live," he said.

And then there was John Ramey and his son, who flew from Little Rock, Arkansas.

"It's a lot of fun. We were there for the final four match up against Kansas. And we've always said if we go, we're going to follow them," said Ramey.

You can expect to see a lot of blue and gray in the Palace on Thursday, perhaps even more on Saturday.

"I hope they can get past the first round this year. If they do they'll be playing State so that should be a pretty good game," said Hawkins.

If you are still not sure about whether to make the trip, the fans already in Michigan hope you can be convinced.

"I hope that people will jump in their car and take that 12 hours drive from Memphis up here because we need all the support we can get," said Ramey.

The Memphis Tigers take on the St. Mary's Gaels Thursday.
