MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The Memphis Police Department released the identities of the two officers involved in a shooting that killed a 61-year-old man earlier this month.

Brandon Hatley, 37, and Forrest Wright, 34, were both relieved of duty pending the outcome of the investigation into the shooting death of Horace Whiting.

According to police, Hatley and Wright returned fire after Horace fired a round from his shotgun after ignoring the officers' commands to drop the weapon.

Officers were called to Mississippi Boulevard and South Danny Thomas Boulevard around 3 a.m. on March 10. They were responding to a report that a man was standing in the street with a gun.
