(WMC-TV) - The Tigers took on the Saint Mary Gaels Thursday afternoon. It was a close game the entire way through, but in the end, Memphis proved to be stronger with a 54-52 win.

Before the game, fans in Auburn Hills, Michigan got together to celebrate and get excited for the big game. But it was not just fans who traveled 12 hours to see the blue and gray. The pom squad was also on the sidelines cheering on their team.

"Our hard work pays off when we get to go to stuff like this," said pom captain Caitlin Fenton.

The Memphis Pom Squad led more than 200 fans at a pep rally before the game.

"The cheerleaders couldn't come this time, so we brought some signs and will kind of have to play two roles," explained Hannah Mills. "We're dancing, we're cheering, and we just get everyone pumped up."

She continued, "It's an amazing feeling because we have such a great community, such a great atmosphere. You know, everybody loves Tiger basketball."

Fenton agreed, "The whole part of it is fun but this is really rewarding, being able to travel and getting to see the other side of what we do."
