Several Mid-South control towers set to close

Posted: Updated:
MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a list of control towers set to close across the country due to the sequester.  Several of those are right here in the Mid-South.

Towers in Olive Branch, Miss., Tupelo, Miss., Jackson, Tenn., and Millington, Tenn. are slated to shut down, stripping off a layer of airport security.

This raises serious safety, efficiency, and economic concerns that the agency has failed to consider, according to the U.S. Contract Tower Association.

The FAA announced Friday that in an attempt to deal with sequestration the agency will close 149 control towers nationwide over a four week period beginning on April 7.
