MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Jack Fussell is running across the United States to raise awareness to a disease close to his heart. Alzheimer's disease took the life of his father in 2000.

Fussell is now running from Georgia to Monterey, California to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association.

On his run, he is making stops around the Mid-South.

Friday, he paid a visit to patients and caregivers at Methodist Hospice.

"For the first time in my life, I guess, I'm not running away from sad things," said Fussell. "Which is what we tend to do as humans. I'm going to them. I wish I would have done this a long time ago."

Fussell will run from his stop in Mississippi and cross the Tennessee border into Collierville on Monday.
