TUNICA COUNTY, MS -
(WMC-TV) - The Tunica County Humane Society is overcrowded, and bombarded with puppies. Four litters of puppies arrived at the TCHS this week, and they are running out of space.
The puppies may be cute, but they are coming in at an alarming rate according to the TCHS director.
'People are just so quick to take them and dump them on the side of the road," said TCHS Director Sandy Williams.
Williams and her sister Gail Johnson said the shelter used its last open kennel this week. Now, they are full.
"It's not unexpected. If dogs aren't fixed they're going to reproduce," said Williams.
Williams said there are always more abandoned litters in the spring. She wants to get the word out to spay and neuter pets. With the shelter at capacity, the need for adoptions is high.
"These adoption events are critical to us keeping our numbers in control," said Williams.
The no-kill shelter is selective about where the pets will find a home, but knows there are plenty of willing and able animal lovers in the Mid-South.
The Humane society will have an adoption event Saturday. See the event details below:
