DESOTO COUNTY, MS -
(WMC-TV) - A project to create Interstate 269 is moving quickly and it is expected to bring additional growth and jobs to DeSoto County.
I-269 will connect Interstate 55 to Highway 78.
At an open house Friday, DeSoto County Planning Commission Director Ted Garrod showed off the progress with some images from above.
In addition to serving as a Memphis bypass for travelers, the route is expected to bring growth and jobs along the corridor that will link I-55 to US 78.
"That area of Craft Road is a principal area in the in the future for 269 and that being near Lewisburg, that will be a definite area of growth," said Garrod.
One of the planned exits is at Getwell Road where Tallulah Redding's family farm is located.
"My farm has been in the family for five generations," she said. "There's good memories left from that farm but my family always believed in progress, too."
Redding and other folks in the county showed up to the Landers Center to learn more about the specifics of the project that is expected to be finished by 2018.
The project is slated to start very soon.
