Rebels lose to La Salle Explorers

(WMC-TV) - Ole Miss is out of the "Big Dance" after losing to the La Salle Explorers in a close game Sunday night.

The first half of the game was back and forth, with LaSalle leading most of the way, but only able to go ahead by six points before Ole Miss would cut the lead to two.

Memphis native Reggie Buckner was called for two early fouls and had to sit on the bench for most of the first half, but at halftime Ole Miss was only down two at 40-38. That was nothing new for Ole Miss, who had trailed at half in each of their five previous games and won all five.

In the second half, Ole Miss came back and took the lead. Marshall Henderson scored 21 points, including 4 three pointers in the game, and Murphy Holloway had 14 points and 14 rebounds in a balanced scoring attack for Ole Miss. Buckner played a great second half and finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks.

But in the end, it was Ole Miss who struggled to shoot free throws down the stretch, only making 10 of 21 for the game. With 2.5 seconds to go, LaSalle took the lead for the final time on a layup by Tyrone Garland and knocked off the Rebels, 76-74, in Kansas City.

The Rebels finish the year with an overall record of 27-9.
