Men beat stranger for refusing to buy Sudafed, say police

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police said a Nashville man was followed to a church and beaten just hours after he refused to purchase Sudafed for a couple of men.

Sudafed is an over-the-counter cold medicine used to make meth. Because of laws aimed at reducing the number of meth labs, pharmacists track how much individuals purchase.

Police said it appears the two suspects, Justin Lee Ray and Thomas Eugene Greer, couldn't buy the Sudafed themselves, so they asked a stranger to purchase it.

The victim was approached by the duo at the Gallatin Pike Walgreens, but the victim refused to buy the medication for the men.

Later that evening, police said the victim was walking into Anointed Life Fellowship church on McFerrin Avenue when Ray and Greer attacked him.

Police said the men knocked the victim unconscious, nearly broke his neck and beat him so badly he could hardly breathe.

Investigators used surveillance video to identify Ray and Greer, who were arrested two days after the attack.
