MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - If you are thinking about bringing a new pet into your home, now could be the perfect time for you to make it happen.

The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County is hosting its 36-Hour Mega Adoptathon this weekend, with adoption fees ranging from $0 to $36.

The adoptathon kicks off Friday at 8 a.m. For those who arrive between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., adoption fees will be just $6.

If you really want to save a buck or two, show up between midnight Friday and sunrise Saturday. Adoptions made overnight will be free.

More animals will be in available though for people who show up between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday. That is when several other local shelters and rescue groups will bring the animals they have that are also looking for new homes. Keep in mind that the humane society's special adoptathon rates do not apply to animals from the other shelters.

In addition to the low fees, anyone who adopts a pet during the 36-Hour Mega Adoptathon can enter to win one year of free pet food from Hollywood Feed, who is sponsoring the event.

"Last year, we sent home nearly 90 animals through our Mega Adoptathon, so we are so excited going into our second year of this event," said Alexis Amorose, executive director of HSMSC. "The message that we and our sponsor Hollywood Feed and media partners WMC-TV Action News 5, KIX 106, 98.1 The Max and News Talk FM 98.9, are trying to get out is simply to adopt, whether that's from us or from any other shelter or rescue group."

The humane society is also hosting a free family friendly movie night on its lawn Friday. Families are invited to bring the kids and some blankets for a free outdoor showing of "Shiloh". The kicker? There will even be free popcorn.

Every animal adopted from the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County is spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on its vaccinations.
