Viewers share concerns, ideas during '5 Listens'

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - The second installment of Action News 5's "5 Listens" town hall meetings took us to the Memphis community of Binghampton.

"I want to hear some good stuff, I want to hear stuff happening in Memphis," shared one 5 Listens participant Wednesday.

More positive stories. was the theme we heard right off the bat from Memphians as we took our townhall meeting to the Binghampton community.

"If we made it a focus to really highlight positive things that are going on with our young people," said another 5 Listens participant.

Highlighting young people and their positive impact on the community was another big topic.

"But it's important that a greater message come across, that is one of the most important things for us, is what happens to our students," said a 5 Listens viewer.

Another viewer said enough with all the dog stories.

"I don't want to hear so much about animals," she said.

Action News 5's anchors Joe Birch and Pam Mckelvy along with other managers and decision makers heard from outspoken neighbors with pride in their community urging a better local newscast.

"The media has harped on everything that has happened with the police, but the crime has been happening all the time. Let's move on to something else," said a viewer.

Please keep those comments coming at our town hall tour across Memphis and the Mid-South .

The next stop on our 5 listens tour takes us to the Hickory Hill community. Join us next Thursday April 11 at New Direction Christian Church on Winchester at 7 p.m.
