Family asks for help finding stolen boat

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) – A Mid-South family is asking for help to find three thieves caught on camera stealing a boat with true sentimental value.

It was a bold theft by three people caught on surveillance video pulling a boat by hand out of the family's carport. The video shows the whole thing.

"It sickens my stomach me replaying videos," Jennifer Wilson said.

Wilson and her husband still can't believe what happened last Thursday, but they can watch it. Their house is equipped with surveillance cameras, installed after crooks broke into their truck a few months ago.

The boat used to be in their carport. The couple bought it for their 6-year-old daughter who was grieving over the death of her grandfather who lived on a lake.

"We purchased the boat so she would be able to go out and have fun and continue her tradition of every summer going to the lake," Wilson said.

The video shows three males with their faces covered walking up to the boat around 4:30 in the morning. They discover it is chained to a motorcycle, so they had to go to their truck across the street to get bolt cutters.

When they finally untangle the chain you can see all three thieves pulling the boat out of the carport. One of them is pushing across the street to a side road where there truck is parked. It is not an easy task because the tires on one side of the boat trailer are flat.

You can also see a frightened neighbor cross the street and alert the Wilson's about the theft.

"I want my boat," said Wilson.

The Wilson's filed a report with police.  They have renter's insurance but it only pays one thousand dollars.
