White House prepares for Memphis Soul

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) – Action News 5's Joe Birch and Lauren Squires are at our nation's capitol just hours ahead of a day filled with rich Memphis soul music in front of a presidential audience at the White House.

A slice of Beale Street arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Native Memphis band leader Booker T. Jones is going to play the Stax classic Green Onions.

Here is a look at part of the incredible set list to be performed for the first family: Mavis Staples will belt out "I'll Take You There," Sam Moore will offer up his Isaac Hayes/David Porter composition "Soul Man," and Millington's Justin Timberlake will offer up "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay," Otis Redding's trademark hit.

Charlie Musselwhite and Ben Harper will blast a John Lee Hooker tune, and this incredible cast of performers will return Tuesday morning for a dress rehearsal followed by the live performance Tuesday evening.

"In Performance at the White House:  Memphis Soul" will be taped Tuesday.  It will stream live on WMCTV.COM beginning at 5:55 p.m.
