Some dog fighting suspects from Mid-South

(WMC-TV) – Action News 5 is learning more about the suspects charged in a large dog fighting bust a few weeks ago.

An incident record lists where nearly 50 suspects are from.

Four are from Memphis. Other suspects are from several towns in Mississippi and Arkansas.

There are multiple suspects with addresses listed in Texas, Florida, and Alabama.

"This operation has been going on for quite some time," said Major Kelly McMillen with the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.

Only a Norris Carpenter had a listed address in the Bluff City. I went to ask for his side of the story.

A woman identified herself as Carpenter's mother when I knocked at the door. She told me she had no knowledge of her son's arrest and didn't have any additional comments.

Vehicles are still being processed for evidence. Some will be seized. McMillen said investigators will be coming from all over.

"FBI agents are here from Alabama and some are coming in from California to help us also," McMillen said.

Aside from the FBI, McMillen said agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshal's Office, and DEA assisted.

Local investigators in Marshall County helped authorities in Benton County with backup from DeSoto County, Mississippi, Fayette County, Tennessee, and Hardeman County, Tennessee.

The Humane Society said a few suspects were caught near Sacramento, California after fleeing the fight in Mississippi just before Easter.

"People came from everywhere to help us with this investigation and raid and without them we wouldn't be where we're at today," McMillen said.

Action News 5 is working to learn more about all of the suspect's charged in this case.
