MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The 15-year-old girl who was shot walking home from school has been released from the hospital.

There was a heavy police presence at Sheffield High School as classes were dismissed Tuesday, just one day after a girl was shot walking home.

Just before dismissal, Action News 5's Nick Kenney saw one officer escort a female student out in handcuffs then take her away in the back of a squad car. We are waiting to hear back from police about why the girl was arrested.

About six marked Memphis police cruisers were at the school, along with some unmarked units and a heavy contingent of Memphis City Schools security officers.

Investigators are not releasing the circumstances that led up to the shooting on Monday.

Officially, they say they are still searching for the shooter and describe the getaway vehicle as a black PT Cruiser.
