Fire chief accused of sexual harassment

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - The Ripley fire chief is off the job as he faces allegations of sexual harassment.

Felix Moore has been the fire chief at the Ripley Fire Department for nine years. Now, he is off the job without pay for two weeks after being accused of sexual harassment by a female lieutenant.

"I don't believe he did it. I'll never believe it," said Geradine Jones-Wright, who lives in Ripley.

Geradine Jones-Wright knows Felix Moore. She says rumors about what happened have been flying all around town for a few days.

"From my point of view, he's a great guy," she said. "He's done some things in our community that we haven't had done."

Ripley attorney Steve Crain says their investigation revealed that although the lieutenant and chief's relationship was never physical, there were some inappropriate text messages and phone calls between the two for the past eight months.

"The chief was a man and said, 'I don't recall all the specifics but I probably did do some things that were inappropriate,'" explained Crain, though he could not elaborate on what the messages said.

He says the chief has already apologized to his accuser, the fire department, and the city.

Chief Moore's suspension began Monday.

Officials in the City of Ripley tell me the sexual harassment complaint would now be put in his official personnel file.
