MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The Memphis Grizzlies announced Wednesday that center Marc Gasol is the 2012-13 NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

Gasol averaged 14.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1 steal and 1.78 blocks during the regular season. He was one of only three players in the league who recorded 600 rebounds, 300 assists and 100 blocks.

Gasol joined the Grizzlies in 2008.

The honor is the fifth league-wide basketball-related accomplishment for the franchise and the first since 2006, when Mike Miller was named Sixth Man of the Year.
