GERMANTOWN, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The man who confessed to killing his wife is getting ready to make another court appearance.

Well known defense attorney Gerald Skahan has been appointed by the public defender to represent Jones, who is charged with second degree murder in the death of his estranged wife, Heather Palumbo-Jones.

Palumbo-Jones was a popular teacher in Frayser. She was laid to rest Friday.

Chris Jones will appear in Germantown Municipal Court Wednesday evening for the second time in one week. He was formally arraigned last Wednesday following his arrest.

Wednesday night is a report date, during which a preliminary hearing may be set.

The case is then expected to end up in front of a grand jury downtown.

Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich says her domestic violence team is handling the case.

"Actually the domestic violence unit in this office is the largest vertical unit in this office and so, it's an issue we take very seriously," she said.

Chris Jones is behind bars at 201 Poplar since the Germantown jail is a temporary holding facility.

His bond was previously set at $1 million.

A fund for the couple's two children is set up through Regions Bank.
