MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Northbound I-55 at Crump is open again after a hazmat crew spent Wednesday night and early Thursday morning cleaning a chemical spill.

One lane of the ramp at Riverside Drive remains closed, but is expected to reopen soon.

A tractor trailer hauling 14, 500 gallon containers of Cobalt Nitrate Solution, a liquid commonly used as an industrial cleaner, overturned Wednesday night on the I-55 ramp off Riverside Drive heading towards Arkansas.

Nine of the containers ruptured, spilling the solution onto the roadway.

Police first reported the liquid was nitric acid.

Fire firefighters and hazardous materials workers were able to contain the solution. As a result, none of it went into any drainage or sewage areas, according to the Memphis Fire Department.

There were no injuries. The spill is not likely to affect Memphis in May festivities at nearby Tom Lee Park.
