Music Fest will 'complement' Grizzlies game

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - With two major Memphis events converging in downtown Friday, some people are wondering if the two will be competing against each other.

More than 18,000 fans are expected at the FedExForum for a potential series-clinching game 6 with the Clippers. The 37th Music Fest is expecting tens of thousands more.

"Winners on both sides. You got a winner down on the river, and a winner down in FedExForum," said Memphis in May executive vice president Diane Hampton.

Memphis Downtown Commission Director Paul Morris suggests parking in the 250 Peabody Place garage if you are going to the game.

If you are going to Music Fest, he suggests parking in the pinch and catching the Riverfront Loop trolley to the front gate of the park.

But, Morris said there is no way to avoid the crowd or traffic.

"Downtown was built for a lot of people. We like having people here. Now people need to be patient and get here early and stay late," he said. "Spend some time here, and your experience will be a lot more enjoyable."

Memphis in May organizers said the festival is not competing with the game it is complementing it. Music Fest will ease its typically strict come-and-go policy on Friday night.

"We're going to extend that re-entry so that those folks who come from the Grizzlies game will get in," said Hampton. "The Grizz are going to win, people are going to want to celebrate by coming back down to Beale Street music Fest. And, we look forward to having them."
