MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - It was officially declared Memphis Grizzlies Day at city hall.

City employees filed outside Friday morning, sporting blue and yellow, to celebrate the team's most successful season.

"There's nothing that brings a city together like having a team that has a winning record and is in the playoffs," said Mayor Wharton's Chief of Staff, Bobby White. "It's just a wonderful thing and everybody is just in the bones, we're excited about the Grizzlies."

White says there is a much deeper meaning to the success of the Grizzlies and what they stand for.

"They so typify the spirit of the city, that grit and grind thing is really who we are. We are some hard workers," he added.

Fans could not agree more.

"I think it's a must. We are gonna win tonight. I don't wanna go back to LA," said Chuck Hamlett.

Another fan added, "It means a lot to the city. It really does."

Mayor A C Wharton, who declared it Memphis Grizzlies Day, will be at game six of the playoff series against the Clippers. In addition to the mayor, 18,000 fans will also be at the Grindhouse hoping for another Grizz win.
