Sinkhole closes road in Arlington

ARLINGTON, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A three feet deep sinkhole closed a section of Jack Bond Road in Arlington.

The sinkhole formed Friday afternoon after heavy rain was dumped on the Mid-South.

"We immediately barricaded the road," said Shelby County Public Works Director Tom Needham. "Fortunately, no vehicles were damaged."

The sinkhole is located on Jack Bond Road between Brunswick Road and Pleasant Ridge Road.

People who live nearby will have access to their homes, but other traffic will be rerouted. Detour signs are posted.

"The rainy weather may delay us," Needham said about repairing the sinkhole. "It will be sometime next week before we get Jack Bond Road open."
