MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -
A mother was killed and six children were injured when their van flipped over Sunday afternoon on State Route 840 in Rutherford County.
According to THP officials, Cathy McAllister, 36, of Murfreesboro was killed in the wreck on the westbound lanes around mile marker 61.
State troopers say McAllister lost control and swerved into the median. The van then flipped at least twice and landed on its roof.
Six children ages 7 to 15 were injured, and those children are now out of the hospital.
A former neighbor believes they were McAllister's own children.
"She had some small kids. I never saw the older kids. They did love their mother. They always ran to her when they got off the bus," said former neighbor Pamela West.
State troopers spent Monday re-constructing the crash and trying to determine the cause. Right now, they do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor, but just to be sure, they're running toxicology tests on the mother.
Investigators say seatbelts helped save lives in this crash.
