(MemphisTigers.com) – Back-to-back complete games has earned Memphis LHP Erik Schoenrock Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honors for the second-consecutive week.
The southpaw tossed his fifth complete game of the season to help the Tigers clinch the series at No. 17 Rice over the weekend. Schoenrock walked one and struck out seven while allowing one run, unearned. Spanning his last two starts, Schoenrock hasn't allowed an earned run in 18 innings. With the complete game effort, Schoenrock improved to 3-0 in four road starts against C-USA foes and has a 1.17 ERA with two complete games, one shutout, to his credit.
Schoenrock is the first C-USA pitcher to win the weekly accolade in back-to-back weeks since Ryan Berry of Rice earned the accolade three-straight weeks in March of 2010. Overall, Schoenrock is the 10th pitcher in league history to grab the weekly honor in back-to-back weeks and the first Tigers pitcher to do so. Schoenrock is the sixth Memphis pitcher to earn the weekly accolade twice in one season and 2013 marks the second-consecutive season for the Tigers to achieve that feat.
Memphis plays its final home game of the season on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Austin Peay at FedExPark. The Tigers close the regular season at Southeast Missouri State with a three-game series beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
