University sets up fund to offset tuition costs

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - One Mid-South university is taking some creative steps to help students pay their tuition

Strayer University officials say have set up a "graduation fund" to offset skyrocketing tuition costs many students are facing.

"In today's economy with high levels of unemployment, affordability is a real issue," Strayer Education CEO Karl McDonnell said.

"We tried to do it in a way where we are also doing it to encourage degree completion.">

Starting from day one, for every three classes a student completes, Strayer will place a credit in his or her graduation fund to cover the cost of one future class.

The credits could cover up to 25 percent of an undergraduate degree. And current students won't see a tuition hike for 2014.

University officials say they think a lot of students can be helped by this program.
