DYERSBURG, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Many students in Tennessee are mourning the loss of a popular former Dyersburg High School student.

Rachel Swetnam was killed in a boating accident late Tuesday afternoon in Oklahoma.

Swetnam was a student at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, but she went to high school in Dyersburg.

She was crowned Miss Midtown Tulsa Teen back in 2010 and Miss Oklahoma Teen USA later that year.

Now, many are remembering Rachel Swetnam's beauty, inside and out.

"I went to church with the Swetnam family and also taught Rachel and her sister in class," said Dyersburg City Schools Director Neel Durbin.

Durbin is just one of many in Dyersburg who are praying for the Swetnam family.

Swetnam's friend, William "Trey" Varner, was also killed in the accident.

The accident happened at the Arrowhead Yacht Club northeast of Tulsa.

Officials say the boat the two were riding in hit a docked houseboat at the marina.

"We were rocked this morning," Durbin continued.

Swetnam and her family moved from Dyersburg to the Tulsa area in 2009.

Trey Varner was from Texarkana.  He was also a student at the University of Arkansas.

"Rachel was already, when they left here, she's already been elected to the cheerleading squad at her new school. She was that type of person," added Durbin.

At this time, officials do not know if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

They say Swetnam and Varner were on the front of the boat.

"We're a small community and relationships in Dyersburg run deep and they run long," explained Durbin.

Many in the Dyersburg have already traveled to Oklahoma to attend Rachel's funeral service.

Her visitation will be held this Saturday, May 18, at 8:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Tulsa.
