MY TURN: Let's celebrate the Grizzlies

Posted: Updated:
MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Just six years ago, the Memphis Grizzlies finished their season with the league’s worst record. They won only 22 games that year, but they made a big move.

The Grizzlies hired Chris Wallace to be the team’s general manager.  A year and a half later, Lionel Hollins joined the Grizzlies as head coach.

Strong leadership makes a big difference, and you can see that in the work of Wallace, Hollins and the team’s key players. The team that struggled to win 22 games in 2007 is now playing for the first time for the NBA Western Conference Championship.

Quite a few people see the Grizzlies as a reflection of the city the team calls home, and “grit” and “grind” certainly are words that could be used describe Memphis.

So, let’s celebrate this working class team of ours. The national news media all too often cites our city as a bad example of this or that. Now that they’ve got their attention fixed on our Grizzlies, let’s show’em just what a major league place we are as we cheer for the home team.

That’s my turn. Now it’s your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
