Activists protest Memphis animal shelter

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - Memphis Animal Services may have a new building, but animal activists say animal cruelty is still going on inside the shelter.

S.O.S. -- which stands for Supporting Reform of Memphis Animal Services -- held a peaceful protest today at the corner of Poplar and Highland.

The group says the shelter's head veterinarian has been cited for animal cruelty.

They say problems at the shelter include, mistreatment , neglect and euthanizing the wrong dog.

"It's the taxpayers in Memphis that pay for the operation of the shelter and the city should be held accountable for properly spending that money and operating that shelter not only properly but humanely," protester Sylvia Cox said.
