Club 152 owners' court appearance reset to Tuesday

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The owners of Club 152 on Beale Street will face a judge after the building was shut down last week following crime and drug investigation that lasted months.

The initial court appearance was scheduled for Monday morning, but was reset for Tuesday.

Drug dealing, pot smoking, plus dozens of calls to police are a few of the reasons the club was closed. Memphis crime fighters say those are enough reasons to keep it closed until the owners make some changes.

In court, the owners should find out what kind of changes are expected in order for them to keep the popular party spot open.

Club 152 was shut down last Thursday afternoon when law enforcement raided the establishment with a court order. It was all part of an undercover investigation that started in November 2012.

Officers say they witnessed employees selling drugs and smoking marijuana. There were also 130 calls from the nightclub in a 15 month period. The calls reported fights, firearms, and other crimes.

In the face of all the accusations, one of the owners, Kevin Kane, said that the club has a drug and alcohol policy for its employees. He said they hold regular meetings with the staff on the issues.

Kane says the owners will fully cooperate with whatever the court wants so that they can open the club again.

The owners are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.
