LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR -

(WMC-TV) - Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson confirms the body of a young woman found in the Black River near the Lawrence and Randolph County lines Saturday evening is that of Sidney Randall.

The sheriff confirmed the positive identification just before 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Sheriff Dotson said the body was found near Old Davidsonville State Park by a fisherman around 5:40 p.m.

"We want to thank that fisherman for calling in. People were still out looking," Sheriff Dotson said. "Everybody that called in tips and everything during this entire search, we really appreciate it."

The body had been caught in a tree in the water about 1.5 miles south of a boat ramp.

Dotson said it appeared to have been underwater for some time.

The family of 14-year-old Sidney Randall was notified soon after the body was found, according to police.

Randall was reported missing over 10 weeks ago.

Friends and family said it was a tragic end to the months-long search for the teen.

Chloe Rice was friends with 14 year old Sidney Randall.

"It was very sad," said Rice.

The discovery of her body devastated the whole town of Walnut Ridge including the teenager's 8th grade class.

"They were all crying. They went to Ms. Finley's office, our counselor. They talked to her. They cried and everything," said Rice.

Randall's parents were too devastated to talk as friends gathered at the mother's home.

Neighbor Katherine Slusser has a grand daughter who was friends with the 14-year-old beauty queen.

"I just thank God it's not my granddaughter," she said. "I think they'd just have to bury me if something like that happened."

John Cornell, the primary suspect in Randall's disappearance was found dead near his truck Monday, March 11 from what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department.

After Cornell's death, Arkansas State Police issued a level 2 Morgan Nick Amber Alert for the 14-year-old.

Investigators are waiting on an autopsy report to determine how Sidney Randall died. They said the case is still under investigation.
