MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Dozens of people flooded Action News 5's e-mail about a text they received that appeared to be from Regions Bank. It is not from Regions Bank, it is a phishing scam.

Chief Consumer Investigator has some advice for you when it comes to banks and phishing scams: No legitimate bank, government agency, or retailer will ever ask you for anything via text.

The Regions Bank text going around is telling people via text that their accounts are being deactivated. This is a scam.

If you call the number provided, it will request your personal information. Do not provide that information. Delete the text message.

For those of you who received the text from "Regions Bank" and it included a portion of your actual debit card number, your card has been compromised. Take a screengrab of that text, and email it immediately to phishing@regions.com.

Beyond that, both customers and non-customers of Regions Bank has received the unsolicited text message.

You are urged to not call the number. Do not click the link. Do not respond to the text. Delete the message.

If you do text the number back, you will verify that your cell number is real and the scammer could sell your number to other scammers.
