Shelby Farms Greenline safer thanks to extra enforcement

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Thousands of people are expected to swarm the 7-mile long stretch of the Shelby Farms Greenline over the holiday weekend.

Two things are for sure -- you will work up a sweat and you will be a lot safer.

On patrol on the greenline is Shelby Farms Park Superintendent Brian Wylie, seven rangers, and six SkyCop cameras.

Wylie says safety on the Greenline starts with parking and the safest place is the Memphis/Shelby County Code Enforcement lot at Farm Road and Mullins Station.

"Code Enforcement and Mullins Station parking lots usually do not fill up all the way, so you shouldn't have a problem finding parking there, " he said.

Maps at Patriot Lake Visitors Center reference each of the Greenline's mile-markers in case you go a little too far.

Keep your valuables on you and not in your vehicle. And the best break spot on the greenline is High Point Terrace, where it is a quick hop to Cheffies and other spots for a thirst and hunger quencher.

Dogs must be on leashes at all times and you are urged to bring a lot of water.

"It's so safe. I tell ya, between the Grizzlies and the Greenline, I love Memphis," said Debbiejo Barnett.

Also for your protection, the greenline's hours are from sunrise to sunset. It is not smart to be on the path when it is dark and violators will face trespassing charges.
