MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The city responded to new claims about the care of dogs and cats at Memphis Animal Services.

The shelter's director welcomes the renewed criticism.

A group called "SOS Memphis" held a rally over the weekend referencing a number of recent incidents of alleged abuse.

"The issues that were cited are issues that have already been resolved," said MAS Director James Rogers.

Rogers admits the shelter's vet was improperly treating a dog with a severe collar injury last summer.

He said 12 employees recently completed training with the National Animal Control Association. In addition, he said adoptions are up, and euthanizations down.
