Boil-Water Alert issued for Coahoma County

JONESTOWN, MS -

(WMC-TV) - The storms that passed through the Mid-South Tuesday night caused a power outage that led to a Boil-Water Alert for Coahoma County.

The town of Jonestown, MS is urged to boil water for one minute before drinking it.

The power outage caused a system wide pressure loss, which can cause contaminants to siphon back into the water supply.

According to the Mississippi Department of Health, any time there is pressure loss, the water is considered contaminated until tests prove otherwise.

The possibility of contamination affects 1,701 customers.
