Captured fugitives face life in prison

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - Two Louisiana fugitives who were captured in Memphis face life sentences this week in Mississippi.

Darian Pierce and Ricky Wedgeworth pleaded guilty to kidnapping and killing Ohio businessman David Cups from a hotel in Vicksburg.  This happened in March of 2011 when they escaped from a prison in Baton Rouge.

Cupps' body was found dumped more than 200 miles away in Alabama.   Days later, investigators say the two tied up a Madison County, Tennessee worker and stole his truck.

Pierce and Wedgeworth were eventually captured when they crashed the stolen truck in Memphis.

Both men have pleaded guilty.  Sentencing will be Thursday in U.S. District Court in Jackson.
