(WMC-TV) - A Shelby County Juvenile Court judge announced Wednesday that he will toss out a 14-year-old murder suspect's confession. The teen is charged in the murder of his mother after setting the family's house on fire.

The judge said the Shelby County Sheriff's office recorded interview with the teen no longer serves as evidence in the case. The judge is expected to explain his decision later this week when he files a formal written ruling.

The teen is charged with first-degree murder of his mother Gwendolyn Wallace.

Early reports in April indicated that Wallace's husband had already left for work and that her son had gone for a walk.

Investigators said evidence from the fire suggests it was intentionally set, and Wallace's 14-year-old son was questioned in connection with the arson.

He admitted to detectives that he set the fire after a disagreement with his mother, but his story changed several times. One story indicating that his imaginary friend, Drake, set the fire.

The juvenile's name will be not released by Action News 5 unless he is charged as an adult in the crimes.
