MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A two-night getaway for two with free airfare and a free hotel room. Sound too good to be true? That is because it is. But some people are finding the offer in the mailboxes.

It is a post card offering a "Fly Away Promotion" leading you to believe that you have been selected to receive free air travel from American Airlines, Southwest, or Delta. It also claims a rapid response will get you the added benefits of a free hotel stay.

It is a scam.

In reality, the post cards are from travel companies that have no relationship with the airlines. They are from companies that sell expensive travel club memberships. Customers are generally required to attend a high pressure sales presentation that could end up costing thousands of dollars.

The Department of Consumer Protection is urging anyone who receives a promotional air travel postcard to be wary and avoid signing up for a travel club they do not want or cannot afford.

Any flight or travel offer you may receive that comes fees, restrictions, and blackout dates is not really free.
