MARSHALL COUNTY, MS -

(WMC-TV) - A Mississippi father is facing charges Thursday after police said he shot a man suspected of raping his 10-year-old daughter.

What started as a possible sexual assault of a young girl has quickly turned into a case of vengeance in Marshall County – where Leon Parker is in jail for assault.

"The information that we gathered was that Mr. Willie Mosley was possibly involved in the sexual assault case and had been shot by the female that was assaulted ... By her father," said Marshall County Sheriff's Office Kelly McMillen.

The young girl was taken to the Memphis rape and crisis center. Neighbor Alberta Jones just lost her son to murder. She knows violence is not the answer, but said it is a tough situation for the community

"I know the guy that did the shooting, I know the guy that got shot, but if that had been your child, what would you [do]?" said Jones.

Detectives said they will send a sexual assault kit off to the crime lab for testing and then decide what to do with Mosley.

The man who was shot is still at The MED. He is expected to recover.

He could face charges for the alleged sexual assault depending on the results of Marshall County's investigation.

Authorities said people should never take the law into their own hands regardless how difficult the case may be.
